Materials:* paper towel rolls
* noisemakers such as rice, beans, small pebbles, or even marbles
* cardboard cut to fit ends
* construction paper in colors of your choice
* tape
* decorations as desired
Cut a circle out of a cardboard or poster board to fit one end of the paper towel roll, and tape it securely shut. Have your toddler drop items into the tube. While covering the open end with your hand, turn the rains stick from end to end to find out how it sounds. Let kids experiment with adding more or using less of the filling until it sounds just right. Use another cardboard circle to close the other end of the tube. You can tape construction paper over the roll to make it more attractive and then let your child decorate it.
