Start a tradition by introducing an elf-like character to your family right after Thanksgiving. Have the new guest arrive at your front door in a package. The elf should be placed somewhere high in the home to watch over the toddlers on behalf of Santa. Make it more interesting by moving the elf from place to place and room to room and letting kids hunt for him. The elf can leave small treats, appear with a notepad and pencil nearby, or leave a trail of glitter. On Christmas Day he disappears, only to return the following year for another holiday season of watching the children to see if they've been naughty or nice.
