Many stores are happy to give away cardboard boxes from large appliances or furniture if you ask for them. Request one or two of them and transform them into a tent, race car, puppet theater, robot, or castle. Parents should take their cue from children about what they want, and then be the ones to cut out windows, create a drawbridge or help with other elements. Let kids decorate the box with markers or kid-friendly paint if desired.
