Young kids are amazed at all the neat shapes that can be found outdoors. In the fall take a nature hike at a local park or around your neighborhood. Have your child collect leaves of various shapes and sizes. Once inside, take a piece of plain white paper and place it over a leaf. Next, have your child color over it. The image of the leaf will appear on the paper. Encourage the use of different colors for various leaf shapes to make a more interesting collection. If your child is old enough, have him cut around the image (adults will need to do this for younger children) provide a simple storage basket for the rubbings for your child to keep and return to often.
